On the 11th of July at 11am I had an appt at Walkers. What a great team of professionals they are. All my questions were answered as well as showing me how to detect the misfunctioning of equipment damaged in a recent fall. I am pleased to say that I continue to be happy to see their staff at every visit. To my surprize there was a new provider. She is knowkedgable, professional, and her bedside manner is clearly unmatched. I look forward to my fresh and continued care at Walker. Thank you very much.
James
They took very good care of my mother while there for a back support. The staff is very top notch on their products and knowledge of insurance coverage. Would recommend them highly.
Ben
All the staff is very professional, I would recommend them to anybody.

Our Services

FAQ
You must be completely healed and cleared by a physician prior to starting the prosthetic process. Once the sutures are removed, we encourage you to come into our office to be fit with a shrinker sock and evaluated for the prosthesis.
The best thing you can do is try to stay mobile. Pre-prosthetic physical therapy is encouraged! Wearing your limb protector is important to focus on keeping your joint straight and protecting the incision site. Lastly it is important to begin to desensitize your residual limb.
Your Prosthetist will work with you to help decide what the best prosthetic design to help you accomplish your goals. All prosthetics are custom made for the patient.
Your prosthesis is made up of many different components specifically chosen for you and your goals. Your Prosthetist will take a cast of your limb to capture the size and shape. From the cast, a positive model is made and shaped to a custom socket. The socket is attached to the pylon and the foot making up the prosthesis.
No, prosthetics are meant to be worn during the day.
The prosthesis will be aligned to the shoes that you are wearing during your appointment. We recommend if you want to change shoes to attempt to wear the same style of shoe. The change in the heel height of the shoe will affect stability and ease of walking with your prosthesis.
The initial gait training, donning, and doffing the prosthesis will be covered in your initial fittings. Typically, higher level ambulatory tasks such as stairs, alternate terrain and ramps are practiced with a physical therapist. If you are using an upper limb prosthesis, occupational therapists are very helpful in teaching you how to use the prosthesis.
Physical therapy is highly recommended but not required. Physical therapists can assist you in practicing how to walk with your prosthesis and help train your muscles to assist in achieving your goals with the prosthetic.
Your prosthesis will be custom for you. We do our fabrication in-house and enjoy customizing your prosthesis to how you want it to look. We specialize in custom socket design and can achieve a cosmetic look with a cover that allows your leg to resemble your body.
It is recommended to wash your liner and your skin daily with mild soap and water. The socket and components of the prosthesis can be wiped down with a cleaning wipe or also cleaned with soap and water.
Prosthetics
Orthotics are devices worn on the body to support, assist or correct various joints or parts of the body. Orthotics include anything from back braces to shoes and inserts to compression stockings.
You will be professionally fitted by a member of our staff and we will address any questions that you may have. We are led by professional, board-certified clinicians that specialize in custom fitting and custom fabricating orthotics. We will fit you with the appropriate brace and will instruct you in the proper fitting of the device. For any questions or adjustments, simply call or drop by during office hours and the staff will be ready to assist you.
Orthotics
Orthotic and prosthetic item costs vary for an individual’s specific circumstance. After an evaluation from one of our board-certified staff members, we can determine your specific need and the associated cost of the device. There is no cost for an evaluation and we only charge for delivered devices.
Custom items range on a timeline depending on the device. Most foot orthotics are made within a week of the impression. Most AFOs are made within 2 weeks of authorization. Most prosthetics are made within 4 weeks of the initial casting. Prosthetic delivery times vary due to the number of check sockets, your availability and other variables.
-
Prefabricated devices are provided during your visit in the clinic with the proper referral. We will check your insurance benefits when you arrive and have you on your way as soon as possible.
-
Foot orthotics are done in 2 stages: evaluation and delivery. Evaluations can be done by appointment or as a walk in. Deliveries are scheduled, usually within 2 weeks.
-
Custom orthotics require an appointment for evaluation and the timing of the delivery appointment depends on the type of device prescribed.
-
Prosthetics require appointments and usually entail 3-4 visits over the course of 3-5 weeks. The appointments include evaluation/casting, 1-2 test fittings, and the device delivery.
-
At this time, the only ambulatory durable medical equipment we supply is crutches.
We do not supply diabetic shoes and inserts through insurance.
We accept walk-ins for repairs on devices, however the best way to ensure that there is a staff member able to assist you with the repair same-day is to call the office. Many repairs can be done same-day with either the Prosthetist/Orthotist or our Technician.
Device
For prosthetic and custom orthotic patients, an appointment is necessary to provide the best service for you. To schedule an appointment at your convenience, call the office at (706) 232-4383. For prefabricated (“off-the-shelf”) braces, walk-ins are always welcome and no appointment is necessary. Simply come by our clinic during office hours. For foot orthotics, we are happy to see you on a walk-in basis without an appointment. We will take an impression of your feet and then schedule you for your custom insert delivery.
Yes, orthotic and prosthetic clinics are required to have a prescription for each device. For prosthetic patients, we can evaluate your current need without an active prescription but a recent prescription (< 6 months old) from your medical provider will be needed prior to any subsequent visits. We may be able to assist you in obtaining a prescription from your provider after an evaluation. Referrals may be faxed to us at 706-232-4667.
We are contracted with most insurance companies in the area including Medicaid and we will handle the filing of claims on your behalf. Please call us to verify that we are in network with your specific plan.
Most items have some coverage, depending on your specific plan. Some items such as custom foot orthotics and compression stockings have variable coverage by insurance plans, but we will check your benefits at the time of service so that you will have no surprises. Our patient care staff is highly skilled at navigating the complex and ever-changing health insurance industry to determine your coverage and process your claim. For some custom prosthetics, we will make every effort to assess your specific financial situation and provide a flexible payment plan if necessary.
We work with some workers comp companies. Please call us to see if we work with your plan.
